About

Voces Raptorum is a new, developing chamber choir based predominately in Nottingham. The ensemble's name, which translates as "The Robber Voices", is, of course, in reference to Robin Hood - although our singers are now somewhat spread across the country, we all met while working or studying in Nottingham. The choir specialise in singing sacred music in a liturgical setting, and take regular visits to cathedrals across the country, our most recent trips including those to Salisbury, Worcester, Southwell Minster and Birmingham. Further information about these visits can be found in the archive, and a selection of recordings are also available.

We are acutely aware that traditional church music is not to everyone's taste, and we have great respect for any tradition of worship, but we also recognise that, in these times of decline of traditional styles of worship, there are countless churches around the country who have been saddened by the loss of their musical tradition. One of Voces Raptorum's aims is to bring a taste of fine music back to these churches and their congregations. We wholeheartedly believe that beautiful music should not be confined to cathedrals and city churches!

We are keen to develop this part of the choir's 'mission', and are interested to know if there are any churches that might be interested in a visit from Voces Raptorum. The choir and its director are all experienced liturgical musicians; service music, whether it be for an office of Matins or Evensong, a celebration of the Mass, or a special service, is always chosen with great care and attention to the lectionary, and to any requirements our host church may have.

Of course, choral music in the liturgy does not suit every church's tradition. However, if you are a member of a church that might be interested in a visit from Voces Raptorum, it would be a privilege to share our music with you, and with your congregation. The contact page can be used to get in contact with the director.
